FARMINGTON — An alleged drunken driver who caused a rollover crash that killed one of the passengers in his car has been charged.
Jody M. Sheppard, 25, of Tooele, was charged Monday in 2nd District Court with automobile homicide, a third-degree felony; DUI, a class A misdemeanor; and driving on revoked registration, a class C misdemeanor.3 comments on this story
On Aug. 12, Sheppard was driving on Legacy Parkway in Davis County with two passengers. Sheppard thought he had missed an off-ramp and then "overcorrected in an attempt to take the off-ramp he thought existed and, in doing so, lost control of the vehicle, swerving into the grassy median and rolling the vehicle," according to charging documents.
Police say there wasn't actually an off-ramp at that location.
Ryan Cody Tso, 24, from Tooele, was ejected, pinned underneath the car and died, the charges state. The other passenger suffered "visible injuries to his face" and was taken to a local hospital, the charges state.
Sheppard, who told investigators he had consumed "three bottles of beer," had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15, according to charging documents.
