PROVO — A Spanish Fork man who claimed he intentionally rear-ended a school bus full of children because he was trying to get away from Satan now faces a long list of criminal charges.

Brant Jay Diediker, 40, was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with aggravated kidnapping and three counts of aggravated robbery, first-degree felonies; 11 counts of aggravated assault and damaging a jail, third-degree felonies; and several class B misdemeanors including DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Diediker drove his truck into the back of a school bus with about 20 students on board near 600 West and 1100 North in Pleasant Grove about 3 p.m. on Dec. 19, according to charging documents.

"(He) struck the school bus from behind with his truck twice in a three-block period. Defendant stated that he intentionally collided with the bus to get away from Satan who was chasing him," the charges state.

After hitting the bus a second time, Diediker got out of his car and attempted to get into two other vehicles, according to charging documents, pounding on the window of at least one car. He elbowed the window in an attempt to break it, according to a Utah County Jail report.

Diediker then jumped into a large box truck and ordered the driver to take him to the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple in American Fork, the charges state.

Four Pleasant Grove police officers found Diediker on the temple grounds. They noted his "speech was rapid and he appeared to have difficulty sitting still for long," according to the charges.

After he was arrested, Diediker allegedly told investigators he had smoked "dab" earlier that day, which is a concentrated dose of cannabis extract. Inside Diediker's wrecked truck, which had to be towed, police found dab, according to charging documents.

While Diediker was being held at the Pleasant Grove Police Department, he "was observed pulling a metal paper towel dispenser from the wall near the toilet and sink. It was damaged when he bent it in two places," the charges state.
