Utah Jazz forward Joe Ingles (2) talks with \\teammate Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell (45) as Utah Jazz and the Portland Trail Blazers play an NBA basketball game at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018.

SALT LAKE CITY — Joe Ingles showed he can troll opponents — even before he drains a shot.

During last night's 117-96 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers Ingles told "I'm shooting it," to his defender Jusuf Nurkic before doing just that — and making it.

Ingles had a strong game overall in the Jazz's first Christmas Day appearance since 1997, giving out seven assists while also making 6 of 11 shots on his way to 15 points.

NBA rankings

Meanwhile, the Jazz are climbing NBA media's power rankings — even before taking into account their Christmas Day victory.

Utah ranks Nos. 13, 16 and 17 according to CBS Sports, ESPN and NBA.com.

"The Jazz have been a disappointment, certainly, but it could be painted as a success that they've been able to hover near .500 with that brutal, road-heavy schedule," explained CBS Sports' Reid Forgrave.

NBA.com's John Schuhmann agrees, saying the Jazz have had the hardest schedule in the association so far this season, adding that Utah is starting to impose its identity on teams.

Comment on this story

"The Jazz are looking more and more like the defensive team we expected them to be," he wrote. "They held five straight opponents — including the top-10 offenses of the Rockets, Warriors and Blazers — under a point per possession."
