SALT LAKE CITY — Police arrested a South Ogden man who they say hit a police officer so hard that he broke the officer's gun.

Attillio Reed Renzetti, 22, was arrested Wednesday night for investigation of two counts of aggravated assault, being in a stolen vehicle, and failing to stop for law enforcers.

On Tuesday, Unified police officers spotted Renzetti, who had felony warrants out for his arrest, near 4100 S. Redwood Road. With guns drawn, the officers ordered Renzetti to stop and get out of his car, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report. Instead, police say he drove toward the two officers.

"We both were able to get out of the way but contact was made on the side window by the officer that was nearly struck and his firearm broke," the report states.

The officer was not injured, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray.

Following a chase, Renzetti's vehicle crashed at 4770 S. 1565 West. He ran off. But inside the car, which was stolen, detectives found drug paraphernalia and "multiple swords," according to the report.

Police were able to track Renzetti down and arrest him the next day without incident.

According to court records, Renzetti was convicted of felony drug possession in September and sentenced to probation, but a warrant was issued for his arrest just a month later for violating the terms of his probation. Renzetti was also convicted of theft by receiving stolen property in 2017, attempted theft in 2016, and attempted theft in 2015.
