LOGAN — Nearly 32 percent of college students experience food insecurity, according to preliminary results of a study that took place on Utah State University's campus.

The university is trying to combat that issue among its students through its Extension Food $ense Program, which recently held a discussion on hunger solutions. Several campus organizations attended to brainstorm together, officials said.

"Proposed solutions to food insecurity on college campuses include reducing the stigma associated with using food pantries, adding volunteer opportunities aimed at reducing hunger to course curriculums, and promoting events addressing root causes of food insecurity," according to a news release from the university.

Those at the discussion also "agreed that there should be more research and more collaboration surrounding food security initiatives," officials said.
