SANDY — A construction worker has died after a concrete pipe fell on him in a trench, police said.

The 46-year-old Russell D. Andrews of Salt Lake City was working for Black Rock Construction when the 4,000 pound pipe hit him, said Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen.

The accident happened about 2:30 p.m. Few details about what led to the accident were immediately released.

Representatives from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration were investigating.
