Investigators believe a man in his early 90s got onto the freeway at Park Lane heading south in the northbound lanes. A short time later he collided head-on with another vehicle with a driver and passenger, he said.

Information about the ages and sexes of those two victims was not immediately known. Royce said the passenger was taken by medical helicopter to a local hospital in life-threatening condition. The driver was in serious condition, but also had "possible life-threatening" injuries, he said.

The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
