Utah students and many others are working hard to create a safe political space for aspiring U.S. senator Mitt Romney to continue making statements like, ā€œIā€™m one of those Republicans who thinks we are getting warmer and that we contribute to that.ā€ Mitt said that during a Jan. 22, 2015, speech at an investment management conference. "Utah has a lot to teach the politicians in Washington," he stated once he decided to run for Senate. "Utah is a better model for Washington than Washington is for Utah."

Yes, we are. A strong statement was delivered by the Utah House Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment Committee a week ago when it passed a student generated climate change resolution by an 8 to 3 margin. This was indeed historic. The students were overwhelmed by their state leaders' bold action, an outcome not anticipated, especially by this margin of support. Mr. Romney, please take note, and those who are currently occupying our U.S. Congress: The tides are turning in a more favorable direction for ensuring a habitable planet for the young, and those who will come after, thanks to our Utah legislators.
