SALT LAKE CITY — A new helpful timeline just gave us clues about where “Solo: A Star Wars Story” fits into the Star Wars timeline.
The new film, which released its first trailer on the day after the Super Bowl, will follow the adventures of a young Han Solo, one of the main heroes from the original Star Wars trilogy who debuted in 1977’s “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope.”
But where does the film take place in the Star Wars timeline?
Apparently, as Uproxx similarly reported, somewhere between “Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
Random House's Del Rey Books, who publishes the officially licensed Star Wars' novels, released a timeline showing where various books fit in the Star Wars universe, beginning with the novelization of “Episode I: The Phantom Menace.”
The novelization for “Solo” sits between the book “Last Shot” — which focuses on Han Solo and Lando Calrissian’s early years — and “Thrawn,” a book about one of the Star Wars universe’s most devastating villains.
Two spots later, fans will see a marker for the “Star Wars: Rebels” TV show and “Rogue One” right after that.
"Solo: A Star Wars Story" stars Alden Ehrenreich as Solo, taking the reins from Harrison Ford. With Ron Howard as director, “Solo” stars Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson (“Zombieland”), Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) also in the film.
It’s unclear what the story will focus on. From the trailer, fans can gather that the movie is about Ehrenreich's character putting together a crew — stop us if you’ve heard that before — to accomplish something.
Star Wars released an official synopsis of the film, which read:Comment on this story
“Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story,' an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.”
The film hits theaters nationwide on May 25, 2018.
