The Valentine's Day shooting was a tragedy. Seventeen precious lives were gone in just a matter of minutes. I extend my sympathy to the families of all who were affected.

But just for a few minutes, can we think of a 19-year-old boy who didn't experience any real love from parents his whole life?

His birth parents gave him away at a very young age. I know very little about his life with adopted parents. Then first, the father died, and then just months ago, the mother who adopted him also died. For these past months he has had no one.

Did he have anyone growing up to teach him? To love him? To greet him with a hug when he came home from school? A cookie? A smile? Praise?

Just think about that for a little while.
