TOOELE — A Tooele man died Monday following a weekend rollover crash.
Lincoln Powers, 19, was driving north on 7th Street about 10 a.m. Sunday when his Ford Escape rolled near 400 North, hitting a power pole and ejecting him from the vehicle, according to Tooele police.
Officers and bystanders pulled Powers from the crash out of concern for the downed power lines, Tooele Police Sgt. Tanya Kalma said. He was transported to a Salt Lake hospital where he died Monday.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Kalma said.Comment on this story
A GoFundMe campaign set up for Powers' family Sunday had raised more than $5,000 by Monday evening.
"Lincoln and his family have been a blessing to anyone who knows them. Now we are hoping to be a blessing to them," the campaign description urges.
Powers graduated from Tooele High School, where he played football. A post on a Facebook page for the school's soccer team offered condolences to members of the football team, praising Powers as "as great a kid off the field as much as he was an athlete on it."
