SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County GOP Chairman Jake Parkinson resigned unexpectedly Saturday.

On an announcement made over Facebook, the Salt Lake County Republican Party wrote that Vice Chair Jennifer Jensen would become the new acting chairwoman.

"We thank Jake Parkinson for his dedicated and tireless service to the Party and to all Republicans in Salt Lake County and throughout Utah," the post stated.

No reasons for Parkinson's sudden departure were given in the announcement.

Parkinson did not respond to a phone or email messages Saturday evening.

Jensen also did not respond to an email request for a response.
