A lone gunman entered into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon and opened fire, killing and injuring multiple people, according to numerous reports.

At least 17 people were hospitalized in the shooting, according to Time magazine. The suspect is in custody, WSVN-7 Miami reported.

“It is potentially some former student,” said Robert Runcie, superintendent of Broward Schools. “That individual, we believe, is in custody at the moment.”

Runcie said that there were “numerous fatalities.”

“It’s just a horrible day for us,” Runcie said, according to The Miami Herald. “We received no warning. … We didn’t have any warnings or any threats.”

President Donald Trump responded to the shooting in a tweet.

Videos from the shooting began to appear on social media immediately following the shooting.

One video showed students hiding from the shooter inside a classroom as gunshots were heard.

Another video showed students embracing each other after the shooting.

Videos of students running across campus also appeared online.

Emergency responders worked to evacuate students who were sheltered in the auditorium and school.

WSVN-News shared a video in which a student described what happened inside the school. He said he and other students thought the school were undergoing a drill. Then, he said, he heard gunshots.

“We heard pops and from the other side of the school we see the whole school running out,” the student told WSVN-7.

ABC News shared a video of students walking out of the school with their hands raised.

“Good Morning America” shared a video interview with a mother who said she was texting her daughter, who told her mother to “stay away.”

"She's texting me right now. She keeps telling me to stay away. 'Be safe mom, stay away' … she says she's scared. She heard the gunshots,” the mother said.

BuzzFeed News captured footage of the scene outside the school, which showed students gathering together.

A helicopter also caught footage of authorities carrying someone out of one of the school buildings in a golf cart, according to BuzzFeed News.
