A Colorado couple tired of working sold all of their possessions to buy a sailboat.
Two days later, the boat sank.
According to the New York Post, Nikki Walsh, 24, and boyfriend Tanner Broadwell, 26, decided last year that they didn’t want to work anymore. Walsh previously booked timeshare tours.
“How can we live our lives when we’re working most of the day and you have to pay so much just to live?” she asked. “Most of the work you do goes to your home. There has to be another option.”
The Colorado couple sold their furniture, SUV and many of their possessions to buy a boat that they found in Alabama (a 1969 Columbia sailboat for $5,000). The simple plan was to sail around the world.
The couple learned how to sail and moved to Florida to practice, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The lived on their boat for a few months with their pug as they gathered supplies and planned the first leg of their journey to the Caribbean, according to Fox News.9 comments on this story
However, two days in, the boat capsized as sandbars ripped apart the underside of the boat, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The couple grabbed clothes and all their important documents, as well as their dog before they abandoned ship.
Now, Walsh and Broadwell have only $90 in cash. They didn't have boat insurance and they don’t have jobs. But they have started a GoFundMe page looking for help to buy another boat and finish their quest.
“You only have one life. Why spend it doing what you don’t love. Money isn’t everything!” Walsh told the New York Post.
