A truck rolled onto a car, critically injuring a man on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at 12600 South and Bangerter Highway in Riverton.

RIVERTON — A man was critically injured Tuesday after a truck carrying a large load of drywall rolled, crushing the small car he was driving, police said.

The accident happened just after 1:30 p.m. as the driver of a truck headed south on Bangerter Highway tried to turn west on 12600 South, causing its load to shift and rolling the truck, Unified police detective Ken Hansen said.

The truck crushed a small car, critically injuring the driver, according to Hansen.

The truck also hit another vehicle and a pickup truck. The occupants of the other two vehicles were unharmed and were able to leave the scene, he said.

The driver of the drywall truck was taken to a hospital in fair condition. There were two passengers in the drywall truck, but it is unknown whether they were injured.

Traffic in the area was delayed for several hours.

Later Tuesday, police said the condition of the injured man in the car was improving. He had seen the coming and moved his car forward a few feet, which possibly saved his life, police said.
