SALT LAKE CITY — A television series filmed in Utah is expected to have a new trailer during the Super Bowl.
With scenes all around the Beehive State, including Canyonlands National Park and much of Moab, the HBO sci-fi drama “Westworld” plans to release its next trailer during the Super Bowl, according to Entertainment Weekly. This is a big deal, as the network has only purchased ad time during the big game in 1997 and 1998.
“With 'Game of Thrones' taking the year off, 'Westworld' is poised to be HBO’s big genre showcase series this year. And given 'Westworld’s' strong showing in the Emmy nominations for its premiere season … the series is likely to have plenty of contenders during the next award season too,” Entertainment Weekly reported.
Despite its acclaim, “Westworld” has received criticism for its dark themes and mature content, according to the Deseret News.Comment on this story
Dawn Hawkins, executive director of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, said in a 2016 statement that "Westworld's" use of a brothel and scenes where characters kill, laugh over dead bodies and show nudity hurt the series.
The footage included in the soon-to-air trailer may not appear in the upcoming season and may only be exclusive to the teaser, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"Westworld" has yet to announce its second season’s run date, but it is scheduled to air this spring.
