SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Treasurer David Damschen this week received the 2017 Policymaker of the Year award from the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems.

The award, which was presented at the association’s annual legislative conference in Washington, D.C., recognizes Damschen’s work advocating for states' rights and effective approaches to sound retirement systems and policies.

Among his efforts, Damschen worked to defend Department of Labor safe harbor rules, which empowered states to develop simple, low-cost retirement savings programs for workers who lack access to a workplace retirement plan.
