WEST JORDAN — A 76-year-old man has been arrested after police say he shoveled a path from his door to a spot where he would watch a 16-year-old neighbor girl through her window.

The West Jordan man was arrested Monday for investigation of voyeurism. The teenage girl had seen the man looking in her window before and apparently warned him to stop, said West Jordan Police Sgt. JC Holt. But when the man was caught peering in her window again earlier this week, police were called.

"The victim told me that she has observed the suspect watching her through her bedroom window numerous times from the pathway in the suspect's yard," an officer wrote in a Salt Lake County Jail report.

Officers found a path shoveled from the man's door to the fence at the edge of his property. The path stops at a place where a person can look over the fence and into the teen's window, Holt said.

The man told police "that he frequently watches the victim through her basement bedroom window," the report states. "The suspect said he frequently watches the victim through her bedroom window out of curiosity. The suspect said he knows the victim has a reasonable expectation of privacy, but he is still curious."

No formal charges have been filed against the man as of Friday.
