SALT LAKE CITY — City officials are urging people to use extreme caution while walking, running and bicycling in City Creek Canyon as crews begin staging equipment for a four-month construction project at the city’s water treatment plant.

Beginning Tuesday, and continuing through Wednesday, Feb. 14, trucks will be hauling equipment 3 miles up the canyon’s narrow, curving roads. A routine inspection of the plant late last year determined structural damage to the roof and walls of a building, putting employee safety at risk.

According to a press statement from the city, the demolition and construction process will run through late May. Two to three full closures of the canyon may occur, but every effort will be made to provide public access.

A temporary electronic sign at the canyon entrance will alert the public in case of any closures.
