Deseret News
Letter to the Editor

For those of us with an interest in politics, the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations were relatively calm. There were occasional issues that aroused us to action, but things have changed dramatically with the Trump administration.

The president’s incessant tweets, bombastic public statements and vitriolic diatribes against his perceived enemies have created an odious political environment, all of which feels annoyingly intrusive.

During the previous three administrations, we felt our lives were our own. If a particular political issue caught our fancy we could deal with it, depending on our interest. But now it feels as if our political lives are not our own. There is breaking news at least every day, sometimes several times a day. There is not a day that we do not think about some Trump-related issue.

Furthermore, it is not clear that we are able to respond constructively to disturbing Trump news. As a result, we feel angry and powerless. Times have changed, but we will ultimately find our way through the morass.
