I will deeply miss KBYU-FM radio and the beautiful music it gave me for pondering in a calming background as a temporary refuge from the cacophony of our world.

Instead, I'm afraid that the BYU brand will become more and more like that raucous world with more sports talk and more idle entertainment, all of which sidetracks my thoughts and chases me and my donations away from the university.

Where, rather, is the brand that encourages me to seek that which is still, small and beyond price?

It's not just about the music. There are alternatives to the music.

It's about the community. It's about connecting culture to the community through the music. When beauty originates locally, there is an attachment created that says this is a local cultural treasure. It's part of me. It's part of my community. And it represents a local value. It is what undergirds, motivates and sustains our music and creative programs in our local schools. It is what helps us as a community teach our children to deeply cherish that which is beautiful, lovely, of good report and praiseworthy.
