MAGNA — Two vehicles exchanged gunfire in a Magna neighborhood early Friday, police say.

Just after midnight, residents called 911 to report shots fired near 8500 W. 3660 South. United Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said detectives believe there was a confrontation between a silver vehicle, possibly a Dodge Journey, and a red car, possibly a Honda. Whether shots were exchanged as the two vehicles were moving was unknown Friday.

Evidence was collected at the scene that confirmed shots were fired, he said. Police also went door to door in the neighborhood to make sure no one inside a residence was injured.

There were no reports of injuries from those involved in the shooting, Lohrke said. Local hospitals were put on alert to watch for possible gunshot victims, but none arrived.

Investigators do not believe the incident is connected to a fatal drive-by shooting on the Bangerter Highway in West Valley City several hours earlier.
