The crass and ignorant comment made by President Trump last week during a bipartisan meeting discussing immigration policy seems much more attributable to a schoolyard bully than to the head of a nation founded by immigrants.
Regardless of one’s personal views on immigration reform or foreign policy, it must be recognized that immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador or any other country can help to make our diverse country thrive by contributing to our economy, abiding by our laws and serving in the military.37 comments on this story
Trump’s racist tone increases division among an increasingly divided country and has the potential to put already tenuous international relations in jeopardy. In the wise words of Martin Luther King Jr., “We must learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools.”
I am deeply concerned with the racist and unprofessional example that the president of our nation is setting for my children. How can our children be expected to respect others regardless of skin color or nationality when the leader of our own country continually makes documented, disparaging remarks about immigrants and minorities?
