President Russell M. Nelson is now the 17th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The church also named President Dallin H. Oaks as first counselor and President Henry B. Eyring as second counselor in the First Presidency, according to the Deseret News.
Meanwhile, President M. Russell Ballard is the acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve for the LDS Church.
Twitter celebrated the announcement early Tuesday morning.
The phrases “President Nelson,” “President Russell M. Nelson” and “LDS Church” were ranked among the top trends in Salt Lake City on Tuesday.
The phrase “Russell M. Nelson” was the eighth top trend in the United States, too.
Sen. Orrin Hatch tweeted about President Nelson.

Nelson has dedicated his life to serving others through his work as a renowned surgeon and medical researcher to diligently fulfilling his numerous callings,” Hughes said. “I have the utmost confidence that he will fulfill his new role as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the same excellence as he has demonstrated time and time again."
