The 3,350-acre Desert Color development would be made up of four main land-use districts, with housing, shopping, schools, parks, hiking trails and artificial lakes on the southern edge of St. George just east of I-15, the Spectrum reported.

Orem-based Clyde Cos. is teaming up on the effort with Provo's Blue Diamond Capital and Merrill Trust Group of Atlanta, Georgia. City and state officials have approved a series of land-use plans for the area in recent months.

Clyde Cos. President and CEO Rhys Weaver says it's a decadeslong project, and no timeline has been set for when construction would actually begin.
