Buhman said a passenger vehicle was pulling out of a hotel parking lot and turned the wrong way on 600 South, immediately colliding with a van traveling east.

The van, with two people inside, rolled and caught fire, Buhman said.

The van's passengers were shaken but sustained no injuries, the lieutenant said, but the driver of the passenger car was critically injured and was transported to a hospital.

The intersection at 600 South was closed for about 90 minutes while the crash was cleaned up and investigated.

The crash remains under investigation, and it's unknown if the driver of the passenger vehicle was impaired, Buhman said.
