TAYLORSVILLE — A man crossing Redwood Road was hit and killed early Friday.1 comment on this story
Homero Lara-Chicato, 53, was crossing Redwood Road south of 6200 South just before 7 a.m. when he was hit by a vehicle in the center lane. Initially, police believed the impact from that collision tossed Lara into a UTA bus that was stopped, said Unified police detective Ken Hansen. That was later determined not to be the case.
Investigators say Lara was not in the crosswalk and may have been crossing the street to get to the bus.
Lara was taken to a local hospital in very critical condition and died a short time later, Hansen said.
Redwood Road was shut down in that area for several hours as detectives investigated the crash. Detectives were expected to look at video from nearby Utah Department of Transportation surveillance cameras as part of their investigation.
