MIDVALE — One teen is in custody and police are looking for several others after two cars crashed into a garage.
The incident happened just after 11 p.m. Wednesday. Two vehicles occupied by teenagers somehow lost control and went onto a property at 142 W. Columbia Drive (8075 South), said Unified police detective Ken Hansen.
Several street signs were "taken out," a large tree was hit and a car crashed into the garage, knocking off the garage door and damaging a portion of the roof above the door, Hansen said.
There were no known serious injuries to anyone in the cars or the house. The occupants of the vehicles ran off after crashing.
Hansen said police spotted one of the drivers walking a short distance away. The teen did not comply with the officer's commands to stop and was Tasered before being taken into custody, he said.
Detectives said they know the names of the other juveniles involved.
It was not immediately known why the two vehicles lost control or if they bumped into each other prior to crashing into the garage, Hansen said.4 comments on this story
The garage has been condemned by building inspectors, he said, but the homeowners are still able to live in the house portion.
It's the second time in four months that this house has been at the center of police activity.
On Aug. 26, Jordan Burtell Moulton, 21, was found shot to death in the yard near the tree hit Wednesday night by the car. His death was being treated as a homicide investigation. As of Thursday, police were still looking for the alleged gunman.
Lt. Brian Lohrke said there is no tie between the shooting and the crash and the two incidents happening in the same yard are coincidence.
