SALT LAKE CITY — A woman was shot late Friday night while traveling southbound on I-15 between 1000 and 2000 South, according to Utah Highway Patrol.

Trooper Jared Cornia said a vehicle pulled up alongside the vehicle the victim was a passenger in, and an unknown number of shots were fired, one striking the woman in the neck around 11 p.m.

The driver, who was not identified, took her passenger to Intermountain Medical Center for treatment, but fled the hospital after giving staff false information, according to Cornia. She was later found and, Cornia said, likely fled due to being on either probation or parole.

The victim, who has not been identified, is expected to recover from her injury, which UHP described as not life-threatening.

UHP is looking for a dark grey vehicle that had three people in it and asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact police.
