SALT LAKE CITY — The city’s Sustainability Department is reminding residents that all waste and recycling service will be delayed by one day during the holidays to allow for staff to have time off Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

In addition, Christmas trees may be disposed of in two ways: Residents may cut trees into no larger than 4-foot lengths and place them in the brown compost container for immediate disposal. Ornaments and lights must be removed. Flocked trees will not be accepted in the brown containers.

Alternatively, residents may place whole trees on their curb for disposal in January. Exact pickup depends on demand and will occur in mid- to late-January. Residents may call 801-535-6999 for more information.

Residents who have remaining autumn yard waste for disposal are encouraged to request an extra green waste cart to be used before the suspension.
