TAYLORSVILLE — A 21-year-old man was found dead inside a house that caught fire early Friday.

The man's name was not immediately released as family members were flying into Utah from out of state, according to Unified police.

Neighbors called 911 about 2:15 a.m. to report a house fire at 3478 W. Valley Heights Drive (5170 South), said Unified Fire Authority spokesman Eric Holmes.

Fire crews found the lone occupant of the house, a renter, inside the residence, Holmes said. The man was declared dead a short time later, he said.

It was unknown where in the house the man was found or why he wasn't able to get out in time, Holmes said.

The house and a vehicle outside suffered "significant" damage in the fire, he said. It was unknown if the fire spread from the car to the home, or the home to the car, Holmes said.

The origin and cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday, though there's no evidence to indicate it was suspicious in nature, he said.

A dog and cat also died in the fire, Holmes said.
