SALT LAKE CITY — Audible, the world’s largest seller and producer of streamable and downloadable audiobooks, recently shared its top 10 most-listened-to books of the year.
And many of the top books will sit well with Utah’s pop culture fandom.
The most-listened-to titles include four books from the Harry Potter series, including “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”
All Harry Potter books are narrated by Jim Dale, an English actor and narrator.
“Ready Player One,” which will soon be adapted into a film, sits at the No. 5 spot on the list.
“Our millions of members are incredibly passionate about outstanding listening experiences, so we are delighted to showcase the audiobooks they engaged with most this year,” Audible EVP and Publisher Beth Anderson said in a press release. “Congratulations to all of these titles, and the fine authors, performers and publishers who have brought them to life in audio.”Comment on this story
Though the Audible application has gained listeners more recently because of the rise in popularity of audiobooks, the company began in 1997. Two decades later, the average Audible member downloaded close to 17 books this year.
In fact, when Audible celebrated its 20-year anniversary back in November, it honored a woman named Trisha from Utah, who was one of its 20-year members.
Audible shared a Twitter video of Trisha talking about her favorite books, which included “Creativity Inc.” by Ed Catmull and “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert.
