The woman, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, was hit near 700 North and Main Street in Layton, said Layton Police Sgt. Paul Gardiner.

The woman was unconscious when crews arrived, Gardiner said. She was brought by ambulance to Davis Hospital and then flown to another hospital in critical condition. She died of her injuries.

Gardiner said the woman was in the middle of the road when she was struck by a 33-year-old driver who said he hadn't seen her.

"Sunset was around 5, so it was kind of dark when it happened," Gardiner said.
