PROVO — The Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce has announced JoAnn Losee, owner of Losee Jewelers, and Bill Hulterstrom, president and CEO of the United Way of Utah County, will receive the 2018 Pillar of the Valley Award.
The award, created in 2011, honors individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the business, civic, social, education and cultural climate of Utah Valley.
“Bill Hulterstrom and JoAnn Losee are exemplars of the spirit of leadership and giving the Pillar of the Valley represents,” Rona Rahlf, the chamber’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “Between the two of them, thousands of lives around the world have been improved. Many people owe in part, their success, health and well-being to these two great pillars of our valley.”
In the 1980s,Losee and her husband, Richard, started a scholarship fund that has helped generations of students receive higher education at Utah Valley University, and their generosity in funding many buildings and initiatives at the university has resulted in the Losee Learning Center.Comment on this story
Hulterstrom has been helping individuals and families improve their communities throughout North America and overseas for more than 30 years. He began his career with the Utah Special Olympics before accepting a position with the United Way of Utah County, where after only two years, he was promoted to president and CEO.
Over the past 30 years, Hulterstrom has conducted hundreds of workshops in volunteering, board governance, nonprofit leadership and community building, and he trained or consulted with thousands of individuals in over 30 states, Canada, and Ghana. He has also served on several national and local committees, boards and task forces.
