West Jordan’s police department is gearing up for its next session of the Citizen Police Academy in January.

WEST JORDAN — The city’s police department is gearing up for its next session of the Citizen Police Academy in January.

The free course runs for 11 weeks. The three-hour classes are held once starting at 6 p.m. at the West Jordan Justice Center Community Room, 8040 S. Redwood Road.

Participants will get an inside look at how the police department works and learn about different aspects of police work, including firearm safety, crime scene investigation, K-9, crime prevention and defensive tactics.

Space is limited to 24 people. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and pass a basic background check. A background check must be completed before an application can be processed. If accepted, participants are expected to complete the full course.
