The online printing company Snapfish recently put together a report that identifies where shoppers spend the most for holiday gifts.

Nine states spend the most amount of money for Christmas at more than $1,000, including Arkansas, California, New Hampshire, New York, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas, Hawaii and Utah, according to the Snapfish report.

Meanwhile, shoppers in Arizona, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota and Virginia spend the least amount of money at $100 or less.

Snapfish surveyed 1,000 adults about their holiday spending.

About 1-in-5 Americans spend more than $1,000 on holiday gifts, the report said. But even then, 25 percent of people spend from $100 to $500, while 23 percent spend from $501 to $999, according to Reader’s Digest’s analysis of the data.

The data also found that 37 percent of respondents won’t set a budget for the Christmas season.

The survey asked whether or not it’s OK to return a gift. Shoppers in Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Indiana, Virginia and Vermont said no, while those in the 43 remaining states said yes.

How much to spend on your spouse, parent or friend differs by gender. About 38 percent of men said they’d spend between $101 to $500 on their spouse, while only 35 percent women said the same.

About 45 percent of shoppers don’t buy themselves a gift, the report said.

Meanwhile, a recent survey from Shopkick reported that 61 percent of men will buy themselves a gift for the holiday season, compared to just 52 percent women.

That report also found that 47 percent of men will spend the most amount of money on their spouses. Women, meanwhile, will spend most of their money on their children (55 percent) and husbands (25 percent).
