SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes is supporting legislation the U.S. House passed Wednesday to allow concealed carry license holders to pack a handgun in other states.1 comment on this story
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, a top priority for the NRA and other gun-rights groups, passed 231-198. Top Democrats, however, are expected to block a similar measure in the Senate.
Reyes joined 24 attorneys general across the country in a letter favoring the legislation.
"Our states have chosen to respect the rights of residents and nonresidents alike to carry arms for their defense, and we ask Congress to protect the same rights of our law abiding residents as they travel throughout the United States," according to the letter.
The House bill would eliminate a patchwork of state laws on concealed firearms permits. Utah's permit is recognized in 31 states.
