The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. at 6200 South and 5600 West in Kearns, said Unified Police Department detective Ken Hansen.

A white Kia was turning left onto 5600 West when a Ford Expedition broadsided the small car, Hansen said. An 18-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger in the Kia were in the hospital with serious and critical injuries, respectively.

Emergency crews pried the passenger from the car.

The driver of the Ford was not injured, Hansen said. The accident remains under investigation.
