Matiullah Zalmai, a refugee from Afghanistan, picks up a slice of chocolate cake as he and others are treated to a Thanksgiving dinner at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. The dinner was provided by Catholic Community Services of Utah and Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox's family. According to the charity, Catholic Community Services helps resettle 600 refugees to Utah each year and helps them begin their new lives in the U.S. Because coming to America as a refugee can be a frightening and overwhelming experience, one of the best ways to ease this transition, the charity says, is by befriending and introducing them to new cultures and traditions.
