PROVO — The BYU Police Department has announced it will join the Provo and Springville police departments in donating abandoned bikes to charity.

Bikes that are left on campus will be donated to the Provo Bicycle Collective, which refurbishes them and sends them back on the road, giving many away and selling others at low cost.

According to the collective, between 200 and 300 bikes are left on BYU campus each semester.

In 2016, collective’s statewide operations received 5,552 donated bicycles and sent 3,089 repaired bikes back into the community, giving away 1,609 to underprivileged individuals.
