MORGAN — A 17-year-old from Weber County was killed Friday morning when he lost control of the car he was driving on I-84 near Morgan and crashed into a semitrailer that had stopped in the emergency lane.

The driver's name has not been released. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

The teen, of Taylor, was traveling east in a Hyundai Sonata about 10 a.m. when the car slid sideways and its passenger side slammed into the rear of the semitrailer, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a prepared statement.

The road was covered in slush at the time as icy rain fell across northern Utah, according to the UHP.

The semitrailer driver wasn't injured in the crash that briefly closed one lane of traffic.
