HOLLADAY — Police arrested a man late Saturday suspected of killing his elderly parents.

Officers were called Saturday evening to a home at 4690 S. Kelly Circle (2750 East) in Holladay to conduct a welfare check. Inside, police found a man and a woman in their 80s who were deceased, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

The couple was identified as Robert Liddiard, 85, and Diane Liddiard, 78.

Investigators obtained information that led them to a Millcreek home, where they arrested Robert Liddiard, 51, in connection with the deaths. Liddiard is the couple's son, according to Lohrke.

“Family members were in contact with the suspect and he had made some statements that made them believe that the other family members, the parents, were in danger (and) they called us to investigate,” the lieutenant said.

"We do have a suspect of our homicides in custody," Lohrke said.

He added that officers had an idea of who they were looking for and where he might be located. They found his vehicle outside a Millcreek home and arrested him inside. It wasn't immediately known whether Liddiard lives at the Millcreek house.

Unified police later posted on Twitter: "The family would like to note that Robert Liddiard (suspect) has been battling serious mental health issues for quite some time."

Officers were questioning Liddiard and gathering evidence at the Holladay home late Saturday.
