SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police say a drug deal gone bad led to a shooting in a downtown parking garage Sunday, leaving one man injured and another man on the run.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Russ Amott said two men met in a secluded area of a parking garage at The Gateway about 1 p.m. for an exchange in which the victim said he was planning to purchase "medical marijuana."

Amott said the victim was shot in the face/head area but did not sustain life-threatening injuries. Following the shooting, the suspect stole the victim's silver Inifinti and left the scene, Amott said.

Amott said police were searching for the suspect, described only as a black male, and the stolen vehicle. The victim, who has not been identified, was transported to a hospital for treatment. Amott said detectives will determine what, if any, charges will be filed against him.

Amott encouraged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000.
