The two girls, ages 14 and 16, were attempting to cross U.S. 89 near 3484 South about 4 p.m. when they were hit by a northbound pickup truck, according to Perry Police Sgt. Scott Hancey.

Both girls were transported by helicopter in extremely critical condition, Hancey said. One was taken to a hospital in Ogden, while the other was transported to Salt Lake City.

No additional information about the girls was available Sunday night, though Hancey confirmed they are not siblings.

The Utah Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation, Hancey said. There is no crosswalk in the area of the accident.
