WEST VALLEY CITY — A 58-year-old man died after driving into a fire hydrant in West Valley City on Friday, according to West Valley City police.

Easa Mohammed was driving a silver minivan south on 1595 W. Vivante Way around 2:45 p.m., according to West Valley City Sgt. Anthony Chapman, when his vehicle traveled through the intersection and struck a tree and a fire hydrant.

The man was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, Chapman said. He was not wearing a seat belt and was the only occupant in the van.

Police are investigating whether impairment or speed caused the crash.
