SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's own virtual reality gamespace developer The Void announced Wednesday that tickets have gone on sale for a new "Star Wars" exhibit the company created in partnership with Disney, Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic.

"Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire" will open Dec. 16 at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, and Jan. 5 at Downtown Disney at Disneyland, the company announced.

Creators say game participants will be able to go undercover as stormtroopers in groups of four to "capture Imperial intelligence vital to the budding rebellion's survival."

And just in case "Star Wars" fans aren't already amped up enough, a new trailer previewing the "hyper-reality" experience was also released.

The Void's co-founder and chief creative officer, BYU grad Curtis Hickman, said the group of creative and technologically innovative companies have yielded something truly unique in the relatively new world of virtual reality experiences.

“We are so excited about this magical collaboration between three boundary-pushing companies in the burgeoning out-of-home VR entertainment sector,” Hickman said. “We can’t wait to share the experience of hyper-reality with everyone.”

Industrial Light & Magic executive Vicki Dobbs Beck said the exhibit creates a new way for fans of the "Star Wars" franchise, which debuted in theaters in 1977, to engage with characters, scenes and storylines they have come to love.

“People have longed for a chance to step into the 'Star Wars' universe, and this incredible new hyper-reality experience will allow them to do just that in a totally unique way,” said Dobbs Beck. “It’s a group experience that evokes the senses in bold new ways.”

Utah fans interested in getting a taste of The Void's virtual reality offerings can visit the company's Lindon headquarter's for a "Ghosbusters"-themed gamespace, which it developed in partnership with Sony Pictures and the director of the first two "Ghostbusters" films, Ivan Reitman.
