HEBER CITY — One man was evacuated from the Big Hollow Shooting Range by ambulance and then airlifted to a Salt Lake County hospital following an apparent shooting accident.

About noon on Saturday, Wasatch County Sheriffs responded to a 911 call from a 13-year-old girl who said her father had accidentally been shot outside the shooting range. Two individuals were reportedly shooting by a dirt road near the range when the accident happened.

Jared Rigby, Wasatch County Sheriff chief deputy, said the man was in pain but was able to drive his vehicle down the dirt road to meet the ambulance that had been sent for him.

Rigby said the man, who had been shot in the abdomen with a .22-caliber round, was conscious, breathing and alert when he was met by emergency responders, but Rigby could not confirm the man's condition after he was evacuated.

Rigby said the man is expected to live but may require surgery.

He said Wasatch County Sheriffs are investigating the shooting as an accident.
