Firefighter mop up a blaze that destroyed several cars and structures in Salt Lake City on Thursday, June 29, 2017.

SALT LAKE CITY — Four people escaped without injuries as a fire torched part of a home near a field at 2100 North and 3300 West Thursday, authorities said.

The cause and cost of the blaze were not known Thursday evening, said Salt Lake fire spokeswoman Audra Sorensen.

Cars and a trailer in the backyard also were damaged by the fire that started about 3:45 p.m., Sorensen said. Firefighters contained the blaze in roughly an hour. It was one of several structure fires that crews were battling Thursday.

"It's just very indicative of what this time of year is," Sorensen said. "It's hot, it's dry, and it's risky. Anything you can do to avoid connecting a spark to a source of fuel, that's the solution."
