Martell Teasley will take over a dean of the College of Social Work at the University of Utah on July 1, 2017.

SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah has appointed Martell Teasley as the next dean of the College of Social Work.

Teasley, who will begin his term on Saturday, comes to the U. from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he served as chairman of the social work department in the College of Public Policy for the past five years. He also developed a disaster management certificate program at Florida State University’s College of Social Work, worked as a drug and alcohol counselor, as well as a licensed practical nurse. He also spent a decade in the U.S. Army.

Teasley earned his doctorate in social work from Howard University, where his scholarship focused on African-American adolescent development. He also holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Fayetteville State University and Virginia Commonwealth University, respectively. His research primarily focuses on social work in school settings, particularly the vital role that social work can play in advancing educational equity.
