"Teaching Reading and Writing Together" will be the theme of the eighth annual Southern Utah State College Reading Conference July 14 and 15.

Registration for the conference, jointly sponsored by the college's department of teacher education and reading center, is open to everyone interested in the reading and writing process.Judith Newman, a consultant and literacy development expert at Mount Saint Vincent University in Nova Scotia, will present a keynote address and conference workshop. She will also teach a post-conference workshop on improving instruction in elementary schools.

Two award-winning children's authors - Joan Lowery Nixon of Texas and Margaret Rostkowski, an Arkansas native living in Utah - will also be keynote

speakers. Conference registration is $30. Credit fees, tickets to Utah Shakespearean Festival activities and admission to the authors luncheon are extra.
